Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj was introduced to Bhimrao Ambedkar by artists Dattoba Pawar and Dittoba Dalvi. The King was greatly impressed by the great intellect of young Bhimrao and his revolutionary ideas regarding untouchability. The two met a number of times during 1917-1921 and went over possible ways to abolish the negatives of caste segregation. Together they organised a conference for the betterment of the untouchables during March 21-22, 1920 popularly known as "Mangaon Parishad" kolapur were Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj declared Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar as "the true leader of the oppressed classes in India" as he believed that Dr. Ambedkar was the leader who would work for the amelioration of the segregated segments of the society. He even donated Rs. 2,500 to Dr. Ambedkar when he started his newspaper ‘Mooknayak’ on January 31, 1921, and contributed morelater for the same cause. Their association lasted till the Chhartapati’s death in 1922

भीमराव आंबेडकरांशी छत्रपती शाहू महाराजांची ओळख कलाकार दत्तोबा पवार आणि दित्तोबा दळवी यांनी करून दिली. तरुण भीमराव यांची थोर बुद्धी आणि अस्पृश्यतेविषयी त्यांच्या क्रांतिकारक कल्पनांनी शाहू महाराज फार प्रभावित झाले. 1917-1921 दरम्यान या दोघांनी बर्‍याच वेळा भेट घेतली आणि जाती-विभाजनातील नकारात्मकता दूर करण्यासाठी शक्य ते मार्ग शोधले.अस्पृश्यांच्या उन्नतीसाठी त्यांनी एकत्रितपणे एक परिषद आयोजित केली आणि छत्रपतींनी डॉ. आंबेडकर यांना अध्यक्ष केले कारण त्यांना असा विश्वास होता की डॉ. आंबेडकर हे समाजातील विभक्त घटकांच्या कामांसाठी काम करतील. ३१ जानेवारी १९२१ मध्ये डॉ आंबेडकरांना शाहू महाराजांनी "मूकनायक" हे वृत्तपत्र सुरु करण्यासाठी रु २५०० च योगदान दिल.डॉ आंबेडकर शाहू महाराजांच्या शेवटच्या श्वासांपर्यंत सोबत होते.

छत्रपति शाहू महाराज को भीमराव अंबेडकर से कलाकारों दत्तोबा पवार और दत्तोबा दळवी ने मिलवाया था। राजा युवा भीमराव की महान बुद्धि और अस्पृश्यता के संबंध में उनके क्रांतिकारी विचारों से बहुत प्रभावित हुए। 1917-1921 के दौरान दोनों कई बार मिले और जाति अलगाव के नकारात्मक को खत्म करने के संभावित तरीकों पर विचार किया। उन्होंने 21-22 मार्च, 1920 के दौरान अछूतों की बेहतरी के लिए एक सम्मेलन का आयोजन किया और छत्रपति ने डॉ अम्बेडकर को अध्यक्ष बनाया क्योंकि उनका मानना था कि डॉ अम्बेडकर ऐसे नेता थे जो समाज के अलग-अलग हिस्सों के सुधार के लिए काम करेंगे। डॉ आंबेडकर के समाचारपत्र "मूकनायक" को शाहू महाराज ने 31 जनवरी, 1921 को रु २५०० का योगदान दिया । डॉ अम्बेडकर जुड़ाव छत्रपति की मृत्यु तक चला
